Rock Climbing Accident in Australia

According to reports in the Sydney Herald on Sunday, 29 January 2006, a man has died in a rock-climbing accident in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia. The man was in his forties and had been declared dead at the scene.

Ian Badham from the Careflight helicopter rescue team says the accident happened this afternoon at Mount York, near Mount Victoria.

“The man slipped and fell about 20 metres at the popular rock climbing location, with ambulance officers joined by the NRMA Careflight doctor spending almost half-an-hour desperately trying to revive the man,” he said.

“Unfortunately his head and chest injuries meant that was impossible.”

This was the first fatal accident in the area for over five years.
